Hillside Dance Program

This video was taken when we had guest artist, Moriah Amor back-up dancer with Mandisa, come and teach the girls a little hip hop class in February. They loved the opportunity to learn a different dance style than ballet and to be taught by a professional dancer.

"The Hillside Program" came about fall of 2019 when the founder of Salt and Light Dance Studio saw that 'at-risk' boys had an outlet through things happening in Duluth, like a skatepark or basketball programming, but there was not a place for girls to learn a new activity. The demand for a program like this is evident, as lessons learned in a ballet classroom reach far behind what's seen. Ballet teaches discipline, grace, determination, and leadership skills. As a local dance studio, our vision is to make dance accessible and available for all. To achieve this vision, we are expanding into the underserved hillside community; making dance accessible regardless of age or ability. This dance program is a free outreach program happening every Thursday evening.
